21st Century Oncology Data Breach Lawsuit

U.S. District Judge Mary Scriven of the Middle District of Florida Tampa Division appointed Motley Rice attorney Jodi Westbrook Flowers as co-liaison counsel and a member of the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for multidistrict litigation filed for impacted patients of the 21st Century Oncology data breach.
DATA BREACH VICTIMS CAN NOW FILE CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION THROUGH SETTLEMENT SITE

Patients whose private information was compromised in the 21st Century Oncology data breach can now submit a claim for compensation by visiting www.21cosettlement.com. The deadline to submit a claim is May 10, 2021. Under the resolution, claims filed after May 10, 2021 will be forever barred or not be accepted.
Patients who wish to object or be excluded from the settlement funds must do so by March 9, 2021. Visit the settlement website for more information.
Data breach impacts millions of patients
21st Century Oncology is a cancer care company with 145 treatment centers in 17 states and employs or is affiliated with more than 900 doctors globally, including radiation oncologists and other cancer-related specialists such as urologist, oncologists, hematologists, surgeons and pathologists.
21st Century Oncology claims that the FBI notified the company of the breach on Nov. 13, 2015 and upon further investigation, it was determined that the breach occurred on Oct. 3, 2015. Reports indicate that an estimated 2.2 million of its current and former patients across the United States have been impacted.
Patients started receiving letters from the company notifying them of the breach in March 2016.
21st Century Oncology’s History
It is reported that the company has had previous allegedly improper dealings, including resolving a claim with a whistleblower in December for $19.75 million regarding claims of improper billing for bladder cancer tests, and earlier in 2016, reaching a $34.7 million settlement for claims related to improper radiation testing.
Additionally, multidistrict litigation alleging gross negligence, breach of contract and other claims moved forward in Florida in March 2019 after U.S. District Judge Mary Scriven denied a motion to dismiss the MDL. Read more.
